Deep within the enchanting rolling fields, resided a shepherd boy. His existence was essentially pure, simple yet virtuous. His main role was essentially to look after his flock of rams.
Their soft bleating and the murmuring of the breezes among the solo tree on the mountaintop were his main companions. Day upon day, watching over his wards instilled in him a feeling of quiet fulfillment.
Yet, there were at times moments of loneliness, when website the shepherd boy would pine for companionship. On one such day because of sheer monotony, the shepherd boy devised a troublesome scheme.
Stories of wolves prowling on sheep had long been circulating in the village. So, the boy opted to leveraged this fear and played a joke on the inhabitants.
One morning he ran into the village screaming “Wolf! A wolf is preying on my sheep!” The frightened villagers ran up the hills to help but discovered nothing threatening.
The boy chuckled at the confusion on their faces. This trick continued for a couple of more days. However, one morning, a real wolf did come to prey the flock. The shepherd boy dashed for aid shouting “Wolf, Wolf!” But this time, no one showed up.
Frustrated and alone, the boy battled against the wolf but could rescue only few of his flock. Heartbroken, he went back to the town only to receive a scolding on honesty and the consequences of false alarms.
The tale of this shepherd boy has been transmitted generations as a mediaeval parable to teaching the value of honesty, the implications of dishonesty and the risks of crying wolf. Moreover, it highlights how trust once lost, is hard to earn back. It's a story as relevant today as it was in the past.
